Naming your DomainUpon doing the proper research for an affiliate marketing campaign you need to come up with a name that will convert and stand the test of time. Assuming that you have found a niche you are now with left with the predicament of what domain name to purchase. A wise name for your domain can pay for itself. This does not need to be just off the top of your head. You must research to find a great name, too. If there is one thing that you remember from this tutorial it is; put your keywords in your title. You will get extra kudos points in the terms of the SERPS.
Tips For Choosing Great Names That ConvertMake it easy for potential customers to say yes to. Your customer has to be able to find you, know what you are about, and remember you. Think of something that is catchy. What are you going to do to make them remember you?
Repetition. It is better to have a steady business that makes money daily rather than a trend name that will die down. I would not recommend playing on trends because eventually when the hype dies down so will your site. A 52 week business is better than a short splash.
Grab their attention. Simply come up with something jaw dropping that makes you want to find out about your product. You want them to investigate further. Grab their attention and then get them to investigate further. (Example EasyWeightLoss.com) Do not give it all away in the title, though. This might not be the best example but you get my drift?
Desire to buy. You have to create a desire for them to buy a product. Using words such as, buy and purchase are great ways to increase desire. How do you do this? Play the emotional drives, desire for wealth, pleasure, beauty, and acceptance, etc.
BrainstormUpon, trying to determine what you want your name to be you need to do some brainstorming. This is the fun part! Brainstorming should never be skipped when trying to determine your domain name. Brainstorming or 'joint idealization' is a specific technique developed by Alex Osborn, the adverting guru.
4 Steps of Brainstorming- 1. Criticism is withheld until after the session.
- 2. 'Free-wheel.' The 'farther out' the idea, the better
- 3. Produce ideas in quantity. The more ideas, the greater the chance some will be usable.
- 4. 'Hitchhike' combine and improve upon other ideas.
Here are some suggestions to help get your creative juices flowing
Phonontic equivalents. Easy (easi, ez, e z, eezee, etc.)
Other Likely Endings. Track (raq, trak, trax.)
Single and Plural. Cougar (Cougars)
Phonetic. smart locks Smartloc (smart lox, smart loq, smart locs.)
Double and Sing Consonants. Fox (Foxx)
Translations of Foreign Words. Abogado (Attorney)
Also, make sure you go through dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. These are excellent tools and will help your creative juices to flow like a river. You can not skip this step. You will pay for it if you choose the first thing that comes to your head. In fact, the first thing that comes to your head is usually the worst.
Narrow it downNow that you have got some good names now it is time to narrow your brainstorming down. How do you do it though? Pick about ten (10) of your best names (you should have at least 100 of them from the brainstorming phase.) If you do not have 100 then come up with more. Ask yourself these three questions about each one?
Does it grab the viewers attention?
Will they remember it? (
this is sooooo important)
Is there a desire to buy?
Avoid these mistakes for naming your domains:
Confusing Names If I look at it and do not know how the hell I am supposed to say it, it is a horrible name. Also, do not use complicating terms that the general public does not know. Like the word DUMBLEDORE. If you know what this is you deserve a gold star. Maybe not the best example, though. No I am not a Harry Potter fan, but I know someone who is and it is not me!
No Keywords Remember when I said if you learn one thing from this tutorial and that it is, it has to contain your keywords. Put your keywords in your domain.
Remember the name is the most important part. If you have visitors coming to your site and they do not subscribe to your opt-in then they will forget the name of your site. Not if you make give them a reason to remember it. Get creative and have some fun with it. I work in design and I know firsthand that the fun part is the creative part. Once I have an SOLID idea the rest is easy.
Final words of wisdomHere is a list of techniques you can use to name your web sites:Arbitrary Names-- They have no specific meaning or relevance. They are divided into two categories overused (Alpha, Star, Delta, and the ilk) and the underused (the rest) Here are some examples (Dominos Pizza, Adobe Software, Big Dogs Clothing) These names can have high potential and are widely used. Be careful these are high risk, high payout names. They are my favorite.
Imply It-- Following on the heels of 'Just Say It' we have the potent and logical technique; just suggest it; imply it, just evoke it. Here are some prime examples (Pepperridge Farm Bakery Products, Raining Day Bookstore, Campfire Marshmallows.) These are excellent techniques for the do-it-yourself namesmith.
Morphemes Name made up of one or more words and, or word parts, with the partial or complete meaning retained. Examples (CompuServe, Omnicom, Trinova, Qualcomm.) These are best for do it yourself techniques.
Numeric Consisting of or utilizing letters, numbers and other symbols. Examples (7up, 3Comm Corp, Formula 409 Clearnser.) Theses are especially popular for product lines. Remember this if you ever want to sell something with Clickbank. (hint: FatLoss4Idiots) brilliant in so MANY ways and look how well it converts, too! $$$
